Community Service
An important part of BStronglife Campus Club is giving back to the community. Students learn the importance of giving their time to their community and putting others first. Students can also earn community service hours (a high school graduation requirement on some high schools). On one campus alone BStronglife has provided students with over 349 hours of community service.
SOUNDS OF HOPE
During the course of the pandemic schools across the nation conducted a week-long event called “Field of Lights.” Every night for 20 minutes schools would light up their football fields to commemorate the senior graduates who that year would not be experiencing a traditional high school graduation experience. BStronglife joined in the special event by lighting up the chapel steeple of the nearby Historic Nipomo Chapel. The BStronglife team also rang the Chapel bells to synchronize with the “Field of Lights.” The nightly Chapel Bell ringing was so well received that it extended out over three weeks. Additionally, BStronglife Team members programmed the bell tower to play inspirational hymns as a way to recognize first responders, and all those on the front lines during the height of the pandemic. The public gathered from miles around to be present at the Chapel grounds for the nightly bell chimes.
Why bell ringing? In Christianity, the bell is said to represent the “voice of God.” And on that day there shall be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to the Lord.” And the pots in the house of the Lord shall be as the bowls before the altar. The sound of the bell is universally accepted as a way of communicating with the spirits, or as a herald for the arrival of a supernatural, holy power.
ADOPT-A-ROAD PROJECT
As a way to promote civic responsibility and community pride, BStronglife has adopted three roadways in San Luis Obispo County; South Frontage Road, Hill Street, and Mary Avenue, all located in the town of Nipomo. Students and the community have joined us periodically for litter pickup. After a brief training, the students are outfitted with gloves, safety vests, and trash picker tools. Not only can they take pride in a job well done, but many students earn much-needed Community Service hours, a requirement in some school districts for graduation.
CREEKS TO COAST CLEAN-UP
Over the years BStronglife has participated in the annual San Luis Obispo County Creeks to Coast Cleanup. Students partner with other community folks to pull thousands of pounds of trash from local creeks and waterways. This is another way students earn Community Service hours that can be applied towards graduation or college entrance applications.
TURKEY DRIVE
BStronglife has partnered with the school campus, businesses, food retail and wholesale entities to ensure that students and their families have the food they need for a Happy Thanksgiving.
